Prines village alley, Rethymnon, Crete
Villa Anastasia a heavenly little jewel of accommodation only 50 metres from the central square of the traditional village of Prines whose setting is the lush green hill overhanging Rethymnon.

This fine establishment is only 8 short minutes from the cool, clear sea and 7 minutes from Rethymnon and a mere 72 km or one hour from Heraklion by leisurely drive. Prines used to be a location of quite some importance during the Venetian occupation and close by, the charming church of St. Nicolas in the ever prevalent Byzantine style dates from the 13th century.

Although this is a sleepy and peaceful village, all the necessary shops can be found, such as the 2 supermarkets, a traditional kafenio (café serving strong aromatic brews) and a taverna that serves the delectable local fare. This peaceful village itself is surrounded by olive groves and is ideal for people who like less crowded places and want to be in close contact with nature.

Because Rethymnon Town is very close, it is no trouble at all to have access to many and diverse activities and excursions. Upon contemplation it is quite difficult to make a decision as to what it is that makes this area so special to its visitors. Some are charmed by the picturesque villages, others by the setting of natural beauty, for the more adventurous it is the caves, whereas the sun and sea worshipers maintain it is the beaches; of course, there are always the rugged somehow mystical mountains with light winds that almost seem to whisper with the voices of the ancients. The locals in the true Cretan tradition of hospitality will easily become your friends and invite you to their home to recite a charming and witty “mandinada” over a glass of “raki”.
