INTERIOR The first impression when entering Villa Aetos is the attention to detail, beginning with the natural tones of the cool tiled floors and stained wood ceilings, to the colourful accents of the blue and white stripped cushions on the sofas. The ground floor of the villa is one large, open-plan room which is spacious and carefully thought-out in its design. The olive coloured country kitchen is fully equipped and modern but includes some characteristic hints in its quaint decorative brick work. A traditional marble sink faces toward the fabulous view of Glysteri Bay and the sea beyond. Equipped with full sized oven, microwave and full fridge/freezer one can imagine cooking fresh holiday meals and enjoying them on the spacious terraces which surround the villa. One step down from the kitchen leads to the sitting room which has a corner fireplace and traditional bench seating with comfy cushions covered in clean blues and whites. The built-in bench seats can be used as extra sleeping space for a child or 3rd person. The entire space is light and airy with loads of oversized windows facing to the olive trees out back and the dramatic sea views out front. A flat screen television sits on one wall and there are corner book shelves giving the space a homey and relaxed feel. The very spacious main w/c shower room is also located on the ground level of the villa. Fitted with a large step-in shower, heated towel racks and optional heated flooring (added luxuries for early and late season stays) nothing is left to be desired. A corner flight of stairs leads up to the master bedroom, a fresh, ample room with high, wood beamed ceilings and windows on all sides. This beautiful space takes full advantage of its lofty position over looking the surrounding olive clad hillsides, swimming pool and even more dramatic views of the neighbouring island of Alonissos, Glysteri Beach and the sea beyond. A double bed centers the room and is made up in crisp white linens matching the light coloured furniture of the room. There is a small w/c on this level as well. Perhaps the best feature of the top level though is found through the double French doors which lead to an upper level terrace. This is one of the most fabulous (of many) areas to sit and enjoy the views and quiet nature surrounding the villa. Furnished with table and chairs, one can imagine taking morning coffee or enjoying an evening drink as the sun slowly sinks behind the hillsides. The terrace has charming touches with stone pillars and clay pots spilling with colourful flowers.
EXTERIORThe outdoor spaces of Villa Aetos are perhaps as inviting and delightful as its interiors. Attractively built in local stone, the villa stands amidst ancient olive trees which provide many shaded corners for reading or relaxing on the extensive grounds. Particularly from the exterior, one can appreciate the extreme workmanship that has gone into this one-of-kind villa. Outside, the stone details and angles of the building stand out beautifully and although newly built, the house looks as though it has stood there for centuries blending perfectly with its surroundings. From the old-style slate roof, to the brick details under the eves, the craftsmanship is evident in every aspect. Large terraces surround the entire villa where one can enjoy a different view, or relax on the many seating areas and enjoy a good book or mid-day snooze. A favourite pastime will certainly be watching the ferry boats plying the waters below, going to and from the island. And for those bird watchers, Aetos’ name (Eagle in Greek) gives away some of the many species of bird to be seen soaring over head, gliding on the breezes from the sea below. The private pool (7.4m x 2.4m) is great for a cooling dip morning, noon or night. A pergola shades an outdoor kitchen and bbq area which could well become a favouite place to prepare holiday meals. It truly will be hard to tear yourself away from this unique and special place – even to explore the other delights of the island! SURROUNDINGS Villa Aetos is located in the area of Raches which is situated up and behind the main town of Skopelos. It can be reached in approximately 10 minutes by car from the port of the picturesque waterfront of Skopelos Town. En-route to the villa there are two beaches, Glyfoneri and Glysteri. The clear blue water here is cooler than the islands' southern beaches and the taverns are set right next to the sea, offering freshly caught seafood and traditional Greek dishes. Alternatively you may start out in the opposite direction from the villa crossing the island to the sunny southern coast with its string of larger, sandy and shingle beaches. SUITABILITY Villa Aetos is the perfect hideaway for discerning couples who desire a unique snap-shot of an old Skopeliti country house (but with plenty of modern touches of course!). Aetos is truly romantic in its look and feel which makes it the ideal choice for honeymooners or couples wanting to celebrate something special.
