Greece ferry transportation

Greece, with a very long coastline and numerous islands, largely depends on its maritime transportation. There are many ferry companies transferring travelers to every single island in the country. In most cases, ferry tickets can be booked online. For smaller and less developped companies, tickets are booked via a travel agent. Credit card owners from all over the world can book their tickets and have them shipped to their home or pick them up at the kiosks located a few metres from the ship, 1 hour or more prior to departure.

Although there are many ferry companies in Greece with several ships each, it is not always possible to go from one island to the other without having to make a long journey through other islands as well. Islands in Greece are divided in groups, such as the Cyclades, the Dodecanese, the North-Aegean islands, the Ionian islands and the Saronic islands plus Crete and Evia island. Each group is also divided in smaller sections of islands, which are closer to each other, and tourists can travel around them without having to change ship.
